So little time, so much to do!

Hi! I am Miisa from Finland. I am student in The University of Turku and I am going to be an exchange student for fall semester in The Pusan National University which is in Republic of Korea aka. South Korea.

I have been thinking of starting this blog for a while but the thing is that all my time goes making preparations for the exchange and working. I am relieved that now I have made this blog and the countdown to my departure starts. 30 days left.

I have handled the preparations quite well if I do say so myself. All is booked and ready but I won't pack my things yet. My only concern is course registration but today I checked all the things and asked some help. Many thanks to Minjeong for assistance! When I have made the course registration I will tell more about my future courses in Korea.


I am super excited about the exchange for many reasons. I like to make lists so here is a list of:
 
My top 5 reasons to be thrilled now:
  1. I will go to a different culture which will be an adventure for me
  2. Finally I will study East Asian and global studies as my major 
  3. To learn more Korean language and to become more fluent and confident speaking Korean (maybe a bit of wishful thinking there)
  4. The food culture!
  5. To get to know Korean literature and poetry (getting my hands on them)

To explain the second reason of my list and about my studies there. All my student points in my exchange will go to my master's degree and yes that is possible because I only need 30 student points to finish my bachelor's degree in comparative literature and I am going to make those points in spring when I come back from Korea and my dream is to change my major to East Asian studies. Surprise... surprise there is a reason why I am going to Korea...


In the end a bit about this blog. There will be two kinds of posts: First category is Korean culture and second category is my language learning. Choose the one which you like to read and I do hope that the language learning section will be helpful for other language learners as well. Feel free to contact me!

Life starts a new~ beginnings

These past few days have been all hassle and so much has happened that I don't know where to start. I have been in a hotel and moved in to my dormitory room (which is really nice and my room mate is super awesome). I have met my student buddy (she is really kind and understanding) and get to know other exchange students but I have also got to know some Korean people as well. The air is really humid and warm and it has been hard to get used to it. I have found my favorite cafe here and book store. I should never have found that book store... Okay so firstly my room here is really nice and cozy and I have lot of room for my stuff. Bed is nice and I like the common room where you can meet people. Yesterday I met Korean girl who was practicing to English test so we talked a while and she taught me how to make cup ramen in Korean way. Everything comes to an end ~ changing set of mind

December has come and going back to Finland is closing in. I still have couple of presentations, essay and three finals. Have to study in those but in the end everything is coming to the end and my mind set is in that state that soon the semester is at end and I can relax. I have mixed feelings coming back to Finland. In the other hand I feel like I do not want to leave here. I like my life here the people, cafe culture and the fact that everyday you could do something different. But I cannot feel but that there is things that I miss about Finland for example making food, fresh air and friends and family. There is of course things that I do not miss and those are the reasons that I want to stay for example social dancing culture here is amazing and there is more men than women so you do not need to wait so long for your turn, also here men honor your own space and body, you are not touched inappropriately, this I have only faced in Finland. Blue blue blue ~Fall is coming

A month has gone without me noticing the time passing. There is only three months left before I come back and I am torn between the fact that I have so many things I already will miss here and I am missing Finland. I miss preparing food and people there waiting for me. I have spend lot of money, but in the other hand I have been saving for this. I went to Gamcheon culture village here in Busan. Gamcheon was before one of the poorest areas but 2009 government started a project where the buildings were painted with bright colors and lot of modern art was installed. The first thing I noticed is that the village is high up and it was lot of fun to go with a bus when it climbed the mountain. I liked the art and details there were and also you could see parts of peoples daily lives there. I actually went on a day when there wasn't lot of people and got some good photos or so I think. ^^ Fall is definitely coming and here it almost automatically means winter because fall is really sh...
